Social Bookmarking

Bookmark is one of the most used Internet shortcuts in Internet explorer. These are the locally used URL. Internet user share, manage, search, and organize bookmarks of web resources by the method called social bookmarking, as resources can’t be shared by their own, bookmarks are required for them for reference. In social bookmarking, user can share the bookmarks publicly, privately or for some specific person or group by just remembering the links to web pages. Bookmark’s description is in the form of data usually known as Meta data. Metadata could be of any type such as text comment, votes and other information. User can use informal tags for these bookmarks.

Social bookmarking service sites are mostly categorized web content by an open process of tagging usually known as folksonomy. The information included or collected is in the form of distributed and a part of web directories. It gives the map of the web based on the people or users who contacted that.

There are many free bookmarking sites or managers available which give their best service to their users for e.g. Bookmark magic, clip mark etc. Social bookmarking list gives the number of sites and lists to the user to buy the bookmark package of particular task and their relevant amount of market price and concession price of particular site or list, for e.g. PR social sites.

There are many pros and cons of any social bookmark service. Firstly the advantages of these tools are- the user can check all those pages which are not yet noticed or in the index of web server. It can rank how many times a particular pages are bookmarked by the user. It is very useful and easy to give links to the relevant information, for e.g. library. Once correlation between different tags comes into picture, it is easy to obtain a particular community or shared things. For this purpose user have not to learn some specific language or vocabulary for distribution of tags. Now the disadvantages are as there is no specific vocabulary and no set of keywords searching is bit difficult since use of synonyms increases confusion to the user. Corruption is more and having fear of spams as even they started using the bookmarking service for the same page many times using popular tags which increases security concerns.
